About

Hi, my name is Meera Towler. I’m the program director for space robotics at Southwest Research Institute. Before that, I designed control systems for turbomachinery research.

When I’m not in the lab, you can find me with my husband Jerry and our dog Tuck, camping in the mountains of Colorado, sailing the waters of Canyon Lake, or skiing down mountains around the world.

Career

  2022–Present

  Putting robots into space as SwRI’s Space Robotics program manager.

• 

  2019-2022

  Senior research engineer in SwRI’s Intelligent Systems Division, designing advanced industrial robotics that crawl through ship hulls or up transmission line towers.

  2017

  M.S. Mechanical Engineering from Southern Methodist University.

• 

  2014–2019

  Turbomachinery research engineer at Southwest Research Institute. Part of the original STEP team for supercritical CO₂ research.

  2013

  LERCIP intern on OpenMDAO team at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

• 

  2010–2014

  BS Mechanical Engineering and Math from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.
